Running costs and replacement filters
Each fluoride cartridge lasts up to 6 months or 5,000 litres. Replacement Aimex 8 stage fluoride reduction cartridges cost $52 each, or $152 for a 4 pack ($38 per filter), which covers up to 2 years. The 4 filter option of this dispenser ($230) costs $20 less than the 1 filter dispenser ($135) plus a 3 pack of cartridges ($115).
Setup and maintenance
- Soak the new fluoride cartridge in water before first use, then rinse it under warm (not boiling) running water until the water runs clear.
- Fit the cartridge and pre-filter in the upper tank and attach the tap.
- Fill the upper tank with tap water and let it filter into the lower tank.

What removes the fluoride?
Activated alumina, at stage 4. It's a porous material that grabs fluoride as water passes through. It gets used up over time, which is why cartridges need changing.
Will it fit on my bench?
Most likely: it's about 55 cm tall and 33 cm wide. That suits most benches under overhead cupboards. Need more water? The 20L model is about 59 cm tall.
What does it cost to run?
About 1 cent per litre. A $52 cartridge filters up to 5,000 litres. No power, no plumbing and no bottled water deliveries.
When do I change the cartridge?
Every 6 months or 5,000 litres, whichever comes first. The fluoride stage gets used up as it works, so sticking to the schedule keeps results consistent. Tip: set a phone reminder.
Does it remove PFAS?
We don't claim it does. Aimex hasn't published PFAS test results for this cartridge. If PFAS is your main concern, look for a filter with independent PFAS testing.
